levatorWhy is the Levator Scapulae such a Pain in the neck? Here are some theories – 1) This muscle actually physically twists around itself and attaches onto the transverse processes of C1-C4, therefore increasing the tension within the muscle fibers. 2) This muscle is responsible for stabilizing the head which can weigh up to 19 pounds and the common Forward head posture increases the tension on the Levator Scapulae significantly. I would love to hear other thoughts on why this muscle is such a Nasty Fibrotic, Trigger Point Infested, Pain in the Neck!
